The first International Conference on Material Culture will be held online on 20 and 21 October 2021.
International Conference on Material Culture (ICMC) was conceived in January 2021 as the first of its kind held locally and internationally that focuses on Asian and Southeast Asian material culture organised by the School of Arts, Sunway University. The main objective of ICMC is to serve as a platform for researchers and scholars from the academia, along with creators and artists from the industry, to share their research ideas and creations revolving around Asian and Southeast Asian material culture.
The conference includes research papers by international participants, and the presentation of collections from the Department of Museums Malaysia; ASEAN Gallery, Indonesia; and Sarawak Museum, Malaysia. It will also host a virtual exhibition on Southeast Asian material culture (sape, drums, batik) curated by Amirul Idlan Mukhtar.
